Summerville Emerges as Manchester United's Primary Left-Wing Target

2 hours ago·2 min

Crysencio Summerville has emerged as one of Manchester United's leading left-wing targets this summer, according to Sky Sports News, even as the club's primary transfer focus remains on strengthening their midfield.

The West Ham winger caught the eye at the World Cup before Netherlands were eliminated by Morocco on Monday evening. Summerville scored against Japan on his tournament debut, underlining the form that has drawn interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

Rashford situation clouds the picture

United's pursuit of a new left-sided forward is not straightforward. Any move for a wide attacker is understood to be heavily dependent on what happens with Marcus Rashford, whose own future at Old Trafford remains unresolved.

Rashford is expected to return to United's training ground once his post-World Cup rest period concludes — a timeline that could stretch well into August depending on how far England progress in the tournament. The forward has expressed a desire to rejoin Barcelona, who are open to another loan arrangement, but United have made clear they have no interest in facilitating that conversation. Other clubs have also registered an interest in Rashford.

Other attacking options on the radar

Summerville is not the only name under consideration. Morgan Rogers is also identified as a top target, though Aston Villa have no desire to sell and his valuation is considerable. Iliman Ndiaye and Mathias Fernandes-Pardo are also being assessed by United's recruitment team.

The club's flexibility here is also shaped by Patrick Dorgu's ability to operate at left-back as well as on the left flank, giving United options as they weigh the quality of players available on the market.

Ugarte injury assessed

In midfield, Manuel Ugarte's injury sustained while on duty with Uruguay at the World Cup is not expected to significantly alter United's transfer plans. FIFA's insurance scheme is set to cover his wages in full during his recovery, which is most likely to stretch into next year — his contract runs to 2029.

The only credible option Ugarte had available before his injury was a loan move to Ajax, a possibility that was never the club's preference but had not been ruled out entirely. United will retain his sellable value once he returns from injury.

Manchester United are planning to conduct their own medical assessment of Ugarte in the coming days to build a full picture of his rehabilitation timeline.
