Sunderland have completed the signing of Belgium international Thomas Meunier, bringing the experienced right-back to the club on a two-year contract after his exit from French club Lille.

The 34-year-old arrives with an impressive career behind him — more than 550 senior appearances across clubs including Club Brugge, Paris St-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Trabzonspor. His time at Paris St-Germain was particularly decorated, yielding three Ligue 1 titles.

Meunier also carries the weight of 83 international caps and featured for Belgium at the 2026 World Cup, cementing his status as one of the most experienced defenders in European football.

First signing of a pivotal season

The Belgian becomes Sunderland's opening transfer of the new campaign, arriving as the club adjusts to the departures of forward Eliezer Mayenda and midfielder Dan Neil.

Director of football Florent Ghisolfi expressed enthusiasm about the deal, highlighting Meunier's character as much as his ability.
