Ten Nigerian Stars Set to Shine in Europe's 2026/27 Season

1 hour ago·3 min

The 2026/27 European football season is under way, and a wave of Nigerian talent is already making noise across the continent. From Turkey to Italy, Scotland to Austria, Super Eagles stars are stepping up — and several more are expected to grow in stature as the campaign unfolds.

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)

Osimhen was instrumental in Galatasaray's title defence last season, producing 15 goals and five assists in 22 league outings. The 27-year-old has picked up exactly where he left off, netting four goals and providing one assist across the Yellow-Reds' first two matches of the new campaign.

With Mauro Icardi now gone, Osimhen shoulders the primary goalscoring burden for a Galatasaray side determined to retain their domestic crown.

Ademola Lookman (Atletico Madrid)

Lookman completed a move to Atletico Madrid from Atalanta midway through last season and wasted no time embedding himself in Diego Simeone's plans. He finished that half-season spell with nine goals and four assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Handed the No. 11 shirt, the former Leicester City forward is poised to be one of Atletico Madrid's most influential figures throughout 2026/27.

Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan)

After a loan stint at Fulham — where he contributed three goals and four assists in 23 Premier League appearances — Chukwueze returned to AC Milan and has reinvented himself as a wing-back under head coach Ruben Amorim. He announced his intent emphatically with a goal and two assists in Milan's 4-2 defeat of Manchester United last weekend.

Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor)

Onuachu was devastating for Trabzonspor last season, finishing as joint-top scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig alongside Eldor Shomurodov with 26 goals in 36 appearances across league and cup. He also struck twice in Trabzonspor's 2-1 Turkish Cup final victory over Konyaspor.

The arrival of former Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah at Papara Park could be the catalyst that pushes Onuachu's numbers even higher this term.

Akor Adams (Venezia)

Newly promoted Venezia broke their club transfer record to bring Adams to the Winged Lions in a €23 million deal, with the 26-year-old signing a four-year contract. He has already justified the investment, scoring twice and assisting once in a dramatic 3-2 Coppa Italia comeback win over Modena.

Moses Usor (LASK)

Usor was a cornerstone of LASK's domestic double last season, contributing 15 goals and seven assists in 35 appearances for the Black and Whites. The 24-year-old has carried that momentum into the new campaign, bagging two goals and two assists in three league matches under Dietmar Kühbauer.

Maduka Okoye (Udinese)

Okoye is building a reputation as one of Serie A's most reliable goalkeepers. Last season he posted 10 clean sheets in 30 league appearances, and at 26 he enters what many consider the peak years for a goalkeeper. Another strong campaign could significantly elevate his standing in Italian football.

Alex Iwobi (Fulham)

Iwobi has become one of the Cottagers' most dependable midfielders, and last season he made 28 Premier League appearances, chipping in with four goals and three assists. Fulham will lean on him again as a central creative force in 2026/27.

Femi Azeez (Millwall)

Azeez was among the Championship's finest players last season, racking up 11 goals and eight assists in 37 appearances for Millwall and earning a place in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Season. The Lions will look to him once more to fuel their promotion push this term.

Emmanuel Fernandez (Rangers)

Fernandez arrived at Rangers from League One side Peterborough United as a relative unknown but departed last season as the club's Player of the Year and a member of the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season. The centre-back has attracted attention from clubs across Europe and will seek to build on that platform with another commanding campaign for the Light Blues.
