Ugochukwu Joins Galatasaray on Loan from Burnley

Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray have confirmed the loan signing of Nigerian-born defensive midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Sky Bet Championship club Burnley, with an option to make the deal permanent.

Galatasaray announced the move on their official website, welcoming Ugochukwu to RAMS Park. The 22-year-old had only moved to Burnley from Premier League club Chelsea the previous summer, making the transfer a swift change of scenery for the young midfielder.

A career built on loan spells

Ugochukwu began his senior career at French club Stade Rennes in 2020, going on to make 60 appearances across all competitions before securing a move to Chelsea. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 15 appearances across all competitions before heading to Burnley.

The 2024/25 season saw Ugochukwu spend time on loan at Southampton, where he made 31 appearances for the Saints before returning to Burnley to complete the campaign.

Despite the disruption of multiple loan moves, Ugochukwu delivered a productive return at Burnley last season — scoring three goals and registering two assists in 35 league appearances. Those numbers attracted the attention of Galatasaray, who are looking to bolster their midfield with proven Championship-level quality.

Now at RAMS Park, Ugochukwu faces the challenge of establishing himself in a new league, as Galatasaray bid to retain their Turkish Super Lig title.
