West Brom in Talks to Sign Toby Collyer on Permanent Deal

1 hour ago·1 min

West Bromwich Albion are in early-stage talks with Manchester United over a permanent transfer for midfielder Toby Collyer, with the 22-year-old expected to eventually depart Old Trafford.

Collyer has been involved in Manchester United's pre-season preparations under manager Michael Carrick, coming off the bench in the second half of last week's draw with Leeds United at Croke Park. His appearance came after Mason Mount was ruled out through injury.

Despite featuring during pre-season, it has been widely anticipated throughout the summer that Collyer would not remain at Old Trafford beyond the current transfer window.

Loan spells and fitness struggles

Collyer first linked up with West Brom on loan during the previous summer, but his stint at The Hawthorns was cut short when he returned to Manchester United in January after making 12 appearances — three of which were starts.

He subsequently moved to Hull City following his recovery from a calf injury, but managed only five appearances there before fresh fitness problems curtailed his time at the club.

Hull City, who have since won promotion to the Premier League, were reported to hold an interest in bringing Collyer back. However, no deal has been concluded between the two clubs, leaving West Brom as the frontrunners for his signature.

Talks between West Brom and Manchester United are described as being at an early stage, with no agreement yet in place.
