Former England midfielder Jack Wilshere has urged Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly to turn down any transfer approach from Manchester United and remain at the Emirates Stadium to compete for a starting position.

Manchester United have been scouting left-back options and are understood to have prepared a potential offer for Lewis-Skelly. Arsenal, for their part, would demand more than £50 million for the young defender should any formal bid arrive.

Competition at left-back

Lewis-Skelly faces stiff competition at Arsenal following the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori, who has established himself as the first-choice left-back. Piero Hincapie provides additional cover in that position, leaving the teenager's pathway to regular minutes uncertain.

Despite that competition, Wilshere — who came through Arsenal's academy himself — believes Lewis-Skelly has the quality to force his way into Mikel Arteta's plans.
