Yamal Declares Spain Fear Nobody Ahead of World Cup Semi-Final Against France

Lamine Yamal has insisted Spain have nothing to fear from France as the two sides prepare to meet in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final in Dallas.

The Barcelona winger spoke with conviction after La Roja's gripping 2-1 quarter-final win over Belgium at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday — a match in which Yamal was named man of the match.

"We don't fear anyone. It's clear that we are two great teams, world-class national teams, and for me they are one of the best. We'll see what happens."

The winning blow was delivered by substitute Mikel Merino, who struck in the 88th minute to send Spain through to the final four.

A fortress defence meets France's firepower

Belgium's equaliser late in the first half was the only goal Spain have conceded throughout the entire tournament — a remarkable defensive record heading into the last four.

France, by contrast, arrive at the semi-final stage having scored 16 goals across their six matches, making them one of the most potent attacking forces left in the competition.

De la Fuente backs his side

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has faced questions about a potential duel with France since the knockout rounds began a fortnight ago. Throughout, he has spoken warmly of Les Bleus while leaving no doubt about his own team's belief.

"Let me be clear: We are not finished. We are pleased to be in the semifinals, but we want more. … We are capable of winning this game, and not just now, but I would have said this a few weeks ago as well."

With Yamal's confidence and de la Fuente's steadfast belief, Spain head to Dallas fully expecting to extend their World Cup journey — and determined to prove that France should be the ones looking over their shoulder.
