Kevin Akpoguma is set to begin a new chapter in Italy after agreeing a two-year contract with newly promoted Serie A side Frosinone, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Nigerian centre-back is due to travel to Italy on Wednesday to complete his medical and put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the Canaries until 2028.

Akpoguma arrives at Frosinone as a free agent, having departed Hoffenheim when his contract with the Bundesliga club ran out at the end of last season. He made just nine appearances across all competitions for Hoffenheim during the campaign.

End of a long Hoffenheim era

The 31-year-old's departure marks the close of a 13-year association with Hoffenheim, a club he joined from Karlsruher back in 2013. Before establishing himself in Hoffenheim's first team, he sharpened his skills during loan spells at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96.

At international level, Akpoguma represented Germany at youth level before committing his senior career to Nigeria. He has made eight appearances for the Super Eagles.

Frosinone's Serie A return

Frosinone earned promotion to Serie A last season after finishing as runners-up in Italy's second tier, behind Venezia. Akpoguma's arrival bolsters their defensive options as they prepare to compete at the top level of Italian football.
