Arsenal have struck a £75m agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of captain Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazilian midfielder now cleared to travel for a medical.

The 28-year-old had made his intentions clear to Newcastle's hierarchy earlier this summer, indicating he wished to move to Arsenal should a competitive offer materialise. An initial approach from the Premier League champions was turned away, but the two clubs have since reached an agreement.

Guimaraes has two years remaining on his contract at St James' Park, with Newcastle also holding an option to extend for a third year. Despite the club's desire to retain their captain, they were ultimately unable to prevent the deal from going through once the fee was agreed.
