Balogun's Red Card Ban Suspended by Fifa Ahead of USA's Last-16 Clash With Belgium

Folarin Balogun will be free to feature for the United States in their FIFA World Cup round-of-16 match against Belgium after Fifa suspended his one-game ban for a year.

The 25-year-old received a straight red card during the co-hosts' 2-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina in their last-16 fixture, after a foul on Bosnia-Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic.

Fifa confirmed the suspension of the ban in a statement, citing Article 27 of the Fifa disciplinary code.

"In line with article 27 of the Fifa disciplinary code, the implementation of the match suspension is suspended for a probationary period of one year," the governing body said.

The statement also warned that the probationary period carries conditions: should Balogun commit another infringement of a similar nature and gravity within that year, the ban will be reinstated — and any additional sanction for the new offence would also apply.
