Brentford Ease Past Nottingham Forest as Glasner's Scoring Woes Deepen

49 minutes ago·2 min

Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, extending Forest's miserable run in front of goal and keeping the Bees within reach of the Champions League places.

Oliver Glasner's side made the short trip to west London with the worst scoring record in the Premier League — and did nothing to improve it, squandering two clear-cut opportunities and registering just one shot on target across 90 minutes.

Own goal sets the tone

The opening goal arrived on 30 minutes when Dango Ouattara latched onto a long ball from Caoimhin Kelleher and delivered a cross that Nikola Milenkovic could only divert into his own net. It was a moment of misfortune, but it came against a backdrop of Forest failing to test the Brentford goalkeeper.

Before the break, James McAtee had the game's best chance for Forest, collecting the ball in space inside the Brentford box and curling a shot wide. It was the kind of opportunity that a side battling at the wrong end of the table simply cannot afford to pass up.

Yates spurns a sitter

Glasner turned to his bench at half-time, sending on Ryan Yates — but the substitute made matters worse eight minutes into the second half when he headed over from just four yards out after a Morgan Gibbs-White cross had picked him out perfectly.

Brentford wrapped up the points in the 76th minute. Substitute Jaidon Anthony set up Igor Thiago, whose deflected strike beat the Forest goalkeeper to seal a comfortable win. A Forest shot on target — a tame effort from McAtee — did not arrive until the 79th minute, by which point Kelleher gathered it without alarm.

A worrying picture for Glasner

Forest have scored only six Premier League goals this season, the fewest of any side in the division. They wasted 14 attempts before managing a single shot on target in this fixture, a statistic that encapsulates their struggles in attack.

The club remain in the bottom three, and with a home fixture against Manchester City to come next week, the pressure on Glasner is mounting. Owner Evangelos Marinakis has not been reluctant to act when results have disappointed in the past, and further questions will be asked after this performance.
