Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers Chase Wrexham's Arthur Okonkwo

Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers are both reported to be pursuing Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, whose place at the Welsh club has become increasingly uncertain this summer.

The uncertainty follows the arrival of Anthony Patterson from Sunderland, who is widely expected to claim the starting berth between the posts for the Red Dragons. That development has raised serious doubts over whether Okonkwo, 24, will remain at Wrexham beyond the current transfer window.

According to Sports Illustrated, Okonkwo is likely to depart before the window closes, with Charlton and Bolton both identified as clubs keen on securing his signature.

A productive spell in Wales

Okonkwo first arrived at Wrexham on loan from Arsenal in 2023, before subsequently completing a permanent transfer to the club. Over three seasons, he has been a reliable presence in goal, accumulating 108 league appearances — including 39 in the campaign just concluded.

Despite that record, his prospects at Wrexham appear limited with one year left on his contract and Patterson now in place as the preferred option.

Nigeria international eyes regular football

At international level, Okonkwo has represented Nigeria, earning two caps for the Super Eagles. With his playing time at club level under threat, the goalkeeper is expected to seek a destination where he can feature consistently and continue his development.

Whether Charlton or Bolton can provide that platform remains to be seen, but both Championship clubs appear ready to offer the Nigerian a route back to regular first-team football.
