Christantus Uche Has Successful Knee Surgery After Pre-Season Setback

1 hour ago·1 min

Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche has come through knee surgery without complications, the Spanish club confirmed, as the Nigeria international begins a lengthy road to recovery.

Uche sustained the serious knee injury during a pre-season friendly against AS Monaco on August 6, forcing him to travel to Lyon, France, for the procedure.

Surgery a success, rehabilitation begins

Getafe confirmed that the operation was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Christofer Oyola, head of the club's medical department, and Álvaro García Zudaire, head of physiotherapy services for the Azulón side.

"Christantus Uche has undergone successful surgery in Lyon as a result of the serious knee injury he suffered in the match against AS Monaco on August 6," the club's statement read. "The procedure has proceeded normally and as planned."

Uche will now begin his rehabilitation programme under the full guidance of Getafe's medical and physiotherapy staff, with the club pledging to provide all the resources necessary for his recovery.

"The club would like to convey all our encouragement and support to Christantus during this process, with the hope that his recovery progresses as well as possible, as the entire Getafe family wishes," the statement added.

A full season on the sidelines

The 23-year-old is expected to miss the entirety of the 2026/27 season as a result of the injury — a significant blow for both player and club.

Uche spent the previous campaign on loan at Crystal Palace in the Premier League, gaining top-flight experience before returning to Getafe ahead of pre-season.
