Ejiofor Urges NFF to Keep Eric Chelle at the Helm of Super Eagles

yesterday·1 min

Former Nigerian international Eric Ejiofor has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hold on to Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, citing the team's encouraging progress under the Franco-Malian tactician.

Ejiofor made his appeal in an interview with Brila FM, pointing specifically to Nigeria's recent 2-2 draw against Poland in Warsaw as evidence of the positive direction the team is heading under Chelle's guidance.

A push to keep Chelle

"I really think the NFF must keep Eric Chelle as Super Eagles head coach," Ejiofor said. "He has made significant changes to our football, as the team now plays an attractive style."

Ejiofor also praised Chelle's deliberate approach of integrating younger players and Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) prospects into the national squad during friendly matches, describing it as a significant step forward for Nigerian football development.

Chelle's record speaks for itself

Since taking charge of the Super Eagles, Chelle has assembled a remarkable record — 16 wins, 9 draws, and just 1 defeat across 26 matches. His unbeaten streak in regulation time has now extended to 12 games, with the draw against Poland in June 2026 the most recent addition.

That run includes results against three different opponents in a two-week window, international debuts for 13 players — 12 of whom featured at the Unity Cup — and the careful introduction of other players with limited caps to their names, yielding two wins and one draw.

With a friendly against Portugal on the horizon, Chelle will have another opportunity to further shape a Super Eagles squad that is clearly evolving under his watch.
