Everton Beat Newcastle 3-1 to Reach Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals

Everton are into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after a commanding 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday night, with goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney, and Thierno Barry sending the Toffees through.
The win sets up a last-eight clash with League Two side Fleetwood Town in December — a tie that gives Everton a genuine shot at reaching a first cup semi-final since 2016.
Garner breaks the deadlock
The opener arrived on 34 minutes, springing from a moment of sharp pressing. Tyrique George forced Amar Dedic into a loose touch near the corner flag, and Hackney seized on the ball before sliding a pass into Garner, who curled a composed finish into the bottom corner.
Hackney and Barry seal the tie
Everton doubled their advantage right on the stroke of half-time. A Newcastle attack broke down, Jordan Pickford gathered and Everton surged forward. Kieran Dewsbury-Hall drew a foul, advantage was played, and Barry carried the ball wide to set up Hackney, who steered home his first goal for the club.
Barry himself got on the scoresheet on 69 minutes, capping a swift counter-attack in style. Garner fed Dewsbury-Hall down the left, and his cutback found Barry inside the box — with time to settle before drilling the ball into the top corner.
Late consolation for Newcastle
Dan Burn headed in from Joe Willock's delivery in the 89th minute to give Newcastle a consolation, and the goal sparked a brief flare-up between players from both sides — Burn, Joelinton, and James Tarkowski all receiving bookings.
The late goal mattered little, however. Everton held firm to claim a deserved victory and move a step closer to cup glory.
