Ga'ad Condemns Lobi Stars Over Anyamkyegh's Death Amid Claims of Neglect

John Ga'ad, the former Nigeria U-23 Olympic Eagles goalkeeper and current Bendel Insurance shot-stopper coach, has publicly condemned Lobi Stars management after the death of former Golden Eaglets striker Edward Anyamkyegh, who passed away on Tuesday night, 3 November 2026.
A career that spanned continents
Anyamkyegh, who died at the age of 48, was part of the Nigeria squad that represented the country at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Ecuador, netting twice across the Golden Eaglets' three group-stage appearances.
During his domestic career, Anyamkyegh turned out for BCC Lions of Gboko and Julius Berger of Lagos before making a move abroad. His European chapter included stints with Russian outfit Sheriff Tiraspol and Ukrainian clubs Karpaty Lviv, Karpaty-2, and Lviv13. He also had a spell with Finnish side KuPS before hanging up his boots.
Upon returning to Nigeria, Anyamkyegh transitioned into coaching, including a period in charge at Emmanuel Babayaro's club.
Ga'ad's anger at Lobi Stars
Ga'ad told Completesports.com that Anyamkyegh had been struggling financially in the final period of his life and had repeatedly approached Lobi Stars — a state-owned club based in Benue, Anyamkyegh's home state — seeking employment in any role that could help him provide for his family. The club's management, Ga'ad alleged, turned him away every time.
