Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has urged Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to abandon any interest in Real Madrid's Vinícius and move instead for Marcus Rashford, who he believes is a smarter, more attainable attacking target.

Speaking to iPredicta, Gallas made clear his view that Rashford would bring immediate quality to Arsenal's forward line following an outstanding loan spell at FC Barcelona under head coach Hansi Flick during the 2025–26 season.

"Rashford would be a fantastic option for Arsenal's attack," Gallas said. "I think he had a great season, and I'm sure some clubs will try to jump on that situation."

Rashford's future still unclear

The former Chelsea and Arsenal centre-back does not believe Rashford has a long-term future at Manchester United, pointing to the forward's loan move to FC Barcelona as a signal of his desire to leave Old Trafford permanently.

"I don't think he will stay at United," Gallas said. "He wants to leave, otherwise he would not have gone on loan to Barcelona. He will try to find a solution to leave the club and sign a long contract with another British club."

Gallas acknowledged that United's asking price may have deterred potential suitors so far, but suggested the key outstanding question is whether Manchester United are ready to sanction a permanent sale. "We have to know the answer," he added.

Exceptional Barcelona campaign

Rashford's form at FC Barcelona gave considerable weight to Gallas's recommendation. The England forward registered 14 goals and 11 assists across 49 appearances in all competitions, contributing directly to Barcelona's La Liga title triumph and making a significant impression in the UEFA Champions League.

His pace, versatility, and ability to deliver in decisive moments defined a campaign that has firmly re-established him as one of the most sought-after forwards in European football.

Rashford's long-term status at Manchester United remains uncertain. With manager Michael Carrick unlikely to facilitate a move to a direct Premier League rival, a permanent departure from the club appears the most probable outcome this summer.
