Gençlerbirliği Part Ways with Super Eagles Winger Henry Onyekuru
Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirliği have terminated the contract of Nigeria Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru by mutual consent, ending his stint at the club ahead of the new season.
Talks between Gençlerbirliği and the 29-year-old's representatives resulted in a settlement package worth approximately €940,000 to bring the arrangement to a close.
Under the terms agreed, Onyekuru is entitled to €240,000 in unpaid wages from last season, while a further €700,000 serves as compensation for the remaining value of his contract for the campaign ahead. The full sum will be disbursed in instalments across a six-month period.
Had the contract run its course, Onyekuru stood to earn €1.6 million in wages for the upcoming season alone.
The Nigerian winger arrived at Gençlerbirliği on a free transfer last summer, having left Saudi side Al-Fayha. During his time with the Red and Black, he made 17 appearances in the league.
