Bruno Guimarães delivered a moment of brilliance to sink Sunderland as Arsenal claimed a 2-0 victory at the Stadium of Light, moving three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The match turned in dramatic fashion in the second half. Sunderland earned a golden opportunity to take the lead when Ezri Konsa was penalised for holding Dan Ballard, but goalkeeper David Raya produced a superb save — diving to tip Enzo Le Fee's spot kick onto the post.

Guimarães strikes within two minutes

The reprieve proved immediate and devastating for the home side. Just 121 seconds after Raya's penalty save, Guimarães — whose every touch had drawn boos from the Stadium of Light crowd because of his former associations with Newcastle United — controlled a Declan Rice pass and unleashed a ferocious strike that thundered in off the underside of the crossbar from outside the penalty area.

Sunderland pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages and created moments of anxiety for Arsenal, but the visitors sealed the result deep into stoppage time. Reinildo Mandava was shown a second yellow card for hauling Bukayo Saka to the ground as he bore down on goal, and Saka dusted himself off to convert the resulting penalty.

Arsenal extend their unbeaten run

The win is Arsenal's fourth consecutive Premier League victory and sixth in all competitions this season, cementing their position at the summit of the table. Manchester City, who sit three points behind, face Manchester United in a live fixture on Sky Sports on Sunday and could close the gap with a win.
