Senegal legend Henri Camara has expressed his desire to see the Teranga Lions go down in history as the first African nation to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy — even as his country faces a difficult path at the 2026 tournament.
A tough start but hope remains
Senegal are among the 10 African sides competing at the World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Their campaign has started poorly, with defeats to France (3-1) and Norway (3-2) in their opening two group matches.
The Teranga Lions still have a chance of advancing, however, should they beat Iraq in their final group game and benefit from favourable results elsewhere to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Parimatch, Camara — a member of the Senegalese squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup — remained optimistic about his nation's prospects.
