Brazil are targeting a record sixth World Cup crown as their knockout stage campaign begins on Monday evening, with Carlo Ancelotti's side having topped Group C ahead of 2022 semi-finalists Morocco.
Standing in their way is a Japan side who came second in Group F behind the Netherlands. The two nations have met 13 times before, with Japan recording only one victory over the Selecao — a result that came as recently as last October.
ITV1 holds the UK broadcast rights for the match, with streaming available on ITVX. Kick-off was at 6pm UK time.
ITV's commentary and presentation team
Mark Pougatch leads the broadcast from the studio, flanked by a heavyweight punditry panel. Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira — two midfield rivals whose on-pitch battles in the late 1990s became the stuff of legend — are reunited on the same sofa, while Ange Postecoglou rounds out the panel, bringing first-hand knowledge of Japanese football from his successful coaching spell in the country.
At the NRG Stadium in Houston — a venue that ordinarily hosts the NFL's Houston Texans — lead commentator Sam Matterface calls the action from the gantry. Alongside him is co-commentator Lee Dixon, the former Arsenal and England defender who regularly partners Matterface on ITV's biggest fixtures.
What's at stake
The winners of this last-16 tie will advance to face the victors of Tuesday evening's meeting between Ivory Coast and Norway, with that last-16 fixture scheduled for Sunday evening.
