Jesus Ready to Challenge Raphinha for Barcelona Starting Spot
Gabriel Jesus has made clear he has no intention of sitting back and accepting a bit-part role at Barcelona — the striker says he is fully prepared to push Raphinha for a place in Hansi Flick's starting eleven.
Raphinha has been in sensational form this season, netting eight goals and registering three assists across his first six appearances. The Brazilian winger's output has made him near-undroppable, and Jesus acknowledges as much.
Speaking to Tot Costa, Jesus was candid about his teammate's current standing in the squad:
"Rapha is scoring goals. He plays every game, he deserves it."
Rather than growing frustrated on the sidelines, the former Arsenal man says patience and purpose are driving his mindset. He wants minutes — but only the kind that matter.
"I'm going to try to compete and wait for my opportunity to play more and get more minutes. I want to score goals and help, and I don't want to do it when it's 2 or 3 or 4-0, I want to score important goals."
A striker with proven pedigree
Jesus brings considerable experience to Barcelona's attack. After leaving Manchester City in 2022, he spent two seasons at Arsenal, contributing 32 goals and 18 assists across 123 appearances before making the move to Catalonia.
With Flick building a dynamic, high-energy system at the Camp Nou, competition for places is fierce — and Jesus appears determined to make his mark when the chance arrives.
