Jonathan David and Johan Manzambi Emerge as Premier League Targets After World Cup Heroics

The FIFA World Cup 2026 has already produced a flurry of goals — 89 in 28 matches played across Mexico, Canada, and the United States — and two standout hat-tricks have placed a pair of forwards firmly on Premier League clubs' radars.

David's treble puts Juventus striker in the spotlight

Jonathan David, 26, delivered a commanding performance as Canada routed Qatar 6-0 in Group B, scoring all three of his side's first-half goals in Vancouver. The victory gave the co-hosts their first win at the World Cup at the eighth attempt, in front of more than 50,000 fans.

David became the first Juventus player to score a hat-trick at the World Cup since Italy's Paolo Rossi struck three times against Brazil in 1982 — a remarkable footnote given Italy's own continued absence from the tournament.

The Brooklyn-born striker built his reputation in Europe through spells at Gent and then Lille, where he amassed 87 goals in 178 league appearances in Ligue 1. He joined Juventus in 2025 and has since attracted renewed Premier League attention. Newcastle are reportedly keen on Canada's all-time top scorer, who has 39 goals in 78 international appearances, with reports suggesting Juventus would be open to a sale to free up funds. Leeds United have also been alerted to his availability, and several other clubs are monitoring the situation.

Former England forward Dion Dublin, covering the match for BBC Radio 5 Live, praised the striker's display.
