Austrian champions LASK have announced they will observe a minute's silence before their UEFA Champions League play-off return leg against Celtic, in memory of a supporter who passed away during the first match between the two sides.

The Celtic fan, aged 65, fell ill inside Celtic Park last Wednesday during the opening leg of the play-off tie. He was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he later died.

LASK confirmed the tribute ahead of the second leg at the Raiffeisen Arena in Linz, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00.

"LASK has contacted Celtic to advise that they wish to observe a period of silence prior to tonight's match in tribute to our supporter who fell ill and tragically passed away following last week's first leg at Celtic Park. We send our thanks and appreciation to LASK."

That statement was published by Celtic on social media, where the club also expressed gratitude to their Austrian opponents for the gesture.

Following the incident last week, Celtic had already extended their condolences to the supporter's family, thanking emergency services and fellow fans for their response to what the club described as a "tragic incident."

"We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family and we will ensure that we offer them our full support at this extremely difficult time," Celtic said in a club statement.

On the pitch, Martin O'Neill's side carry a 3-0 lead from the first leg into the Linz return, putting them in a strong position to seal progression. The winner of the tie advances to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
