O'Neill Hints at Iheanacho and Saracchi Returns as Rangers Chase Devlin

2 hours ago·2 min

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has indicated that talks are under way with representatives of two former loan players, raising the possibility of a double reunion at Celtic Park this summer.

O'Neill confirmed that the club's chief executive Michael Nicholson "has spoken to" the agent of striker Kelechi Iheanacho, adding that "it's the same with" left-back Marcelo Saracchi — both of whom spent last season in Glasgow. The remarks, reported by the Daily Record, suggest Celtic are actively exploring the prospect of bringing both players back.

Saracchi available as Boca Juniors list him for sale

Saracchi's path to a potential return has been cleared after Boca Juniors made the Uruguay international, 28, available for transfer, according to the Sun. His previous stint with Celtic will have given the club a ready assessment of what he can offer.

O'Neill was less forthcoming when asked about reported interest in Reims midfielder Mory Gbane, 25, declining to be drawn on speculation surrounding the player, per the Glasgow Times.

Rangers step up pursuit of Devlin

Across Glasgow, Rangers are accelerating their pursuit of free agent Cammy Devlin, the 28-year-old Australia midfielder who recently departed Hearts. The Daily Record reports that the Ibrox club are stepping up their interest in the player.

Devlin took the time to publicly thank the Hearts faithful after his exit was confirmed, a farewell noted by the Herald.

Scottish football in brief

Aberdeen banked more than £1 million from Odense for winger Topi Keskinen, 23, representing a sizeable profit on the Finland international, according to the Press and Journal.

Rangers target Jens Hjerto-Dahl could be allowed to leave Tromso for the right price, with head coach Jorgen Vik indicating as much to the Daily Record.

Dundee head coach Steven Pressley confirmed his side remain in the market for another five or six players, while Hearts' new head coach Wouter Vrancken stressed the importance of match minutes ahead of the club's UEFA Champions League qualifying tie against Sturm Graz.

Dundee United have accepted a bid from a Czech club for Republic of Ireland international Will Ferry, 25, with manager Jim Goodwin saying Ferry has "earned the right to explore all his options," per the Courier. Former Easter Road player Liam Fontaine has backed defender Jason Kerr to impress at Hibernian.
