Victor Osimhen added another goal to his already impressive tally before an early injury forced him off the pitch, as Galatasaray overcame Istanbul Başakşehir 3-2 in an enthralling Turkish Super Lig clash on Friday.

The Nigeria international opened the scoring in the 13th minute, converting a chance created by Lucas Torreira to give the defending champions the lead. It was his sixth goal in just four league outings for Galatasaray this season — a remarkable return for the Super Eagles striker.

Osimhen's evening came to a premature end, however, when he picked up an injury during the first half. After receiving treatment on the pitch, he was replaced by Barış Alper Yılmaz in the 33rd minute.

A dramatic second half

Istanbul Başakşehir mounted a spirited response after the break. Eldor Shomurodov drew the visitors level in the 66th minute, setting up a tense finish.

Galatasaray responded swiftly, with Torreira netting again five minutes later to restore the advantage. However, Davinson Sánchez's unfortunate own goal brought Başakşehir level for a second time and threatened to deny the hosts all three points.

Step forward Gabriel Sara. The Brazilian midfielder delivered the decisive blow in the 90th minute, converting a dramatic late winner to seal a 3-2 victory and send the Galatasaray faithful home delighted.

The result keeps Galatasaray in fine form at the outset of the new Turkish Super Lig campaign, with Osimhen's goalscoring consistency — even on an evening that ended in frustration for him personally — underlining just how influential the Nigerian has become for the Istanbul giants.
