Phil Foden has committed his future to Manchester City, signing a new four-year contract that will keep the midfielder at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.

The 26-year-old's previous deal was set to expire next summer, leaving his long-term future in doubt. Instead, Foden has chosen to extend his stay — now entering a new era at the club under head coach Enzo Maresca.

A lifelong City man

Foden has spent his entire senior career at Manchester City, making 369 appearances since earning his first-team debut as a 17-year-old under former manager Pep Guardiola. In that time, he has accumulated an extraordinary trophy haul: six Premier League titles, one Champions League, and two FA Cups — making him one of the club's most decorated players alongside John Stones and Bernardo Silva.

His finest individual campaign came in the season immediately following City's Treble-winning 2022-23 year, when Foden registered career-best figures of 27 goals and 12 assists. The two seasons since have been more modest, with his role in the side shifting as the club adapted its approach.

Last season, Foden scored seven goals and contributed five assists across 33 Premier League appearances, with pacy wide options Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo taking on much of the attacking burden to feed striker Erling Haaland, and Rayan Cherki often preferred in the playmaking role. Foden was pushed deeper as a result, limiting his direct contributions in front of goal.

Foden excited to work with Maresca

Maresca served as an assistant to Guardiola during City's historic Treble season, earning the admiration of players throughout the squad. Foden expressed enthusiasm at reuniting with the Italian coach.
