Poland Defender Potulski Laments Draw Against Super Eagles After Missing Chances

yesterday·1 min

Poland defender Kacper Potulski has voiced his frustration after his side could only manage a 2-2 draw against Nigeria's Super Eagles in an international friendly at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Jan Urban's Poland twice came from behind to level the match in front of a crowd of 58,000, yet Potulski felt the hosts had done enough to earn all three points.

"I think that throughout the entire match, we had more chances. They scored against us when everything was on the line. The first goal — it's unclear whether it was offside. The second goal was a penalty kick, which we accidentally took. We created more chances," Potulski was quoted as saying by laczynaspilka.pl.

Debut goal at the national stadium

Despite his disappointment with the result, Potulski did have reason to celebrate. His equaliser in the closing stages of the first half was his first senior international goal, and the milestone carried extra meaning given the setting.

"I'm very happy with my first goal for the national team. I managed to fulfill a dream, especially with my debut goal at the National Stadium," he said.

Poland's finishing proved their undoing across the ninety minutes — the Red and Whites fashioned several clear-cut openings but were wasteful in front of goal. Nigeria punished them twice to deny the hosts what Potulski considered a deserved win.
