Rob Green Backs Scott Parker as the Right Man to Revive West Ham

Former West Ham United goalkeeper Rob Green has thrown his support behind Scott Parker to take charge at the London Stadium, citing Parker's track record of winning promotion from the Championship as the ideal credential for the job.
Parker, 46, is widely expected to be appointed as the club's next permanent manager following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo on Tuesday. Nuno was sacked after a troubling start to the season — West Ham's first campaign back in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.
A proven promotion specialist
Parker is a three-time former club player of the year at West Ham and has since built his managerial reputation by guiding Fulham, Bournemouth, and Burnley out of the second tier. Green, who played alongside Parker at the club, believes that record speaks for itself.
"Scott's shown a proven record of getting promoted," Green told BBC Radio London. "Detractors of Scott would say, 'this is not a really imaginative style of play, it's not one that might thrill the fans'. I think Scott would say, 'well, my team knows exactly what it needs to do to get promoted'."
Green also highlighted the quality available to Parker in the West Ham attack, arguing that the forward line gives any coach an outstanding foundation to build from. "Give the stardust in that front line to him and he can give you a really good platform to go forwards with it. It makes perfect sense to me," he added.
Difficult start for West Ham
Despite being considered heavy favourites for an immediate return to the Premier League at the start of the season, West Ham currently sit eighth in the Championship — six points adrift of leaders Middlesbrough. They have won just two of their last six matches and have suffered back-to-back home defeats, losing 3-2 to Southampton before going down 3-1 to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The dismissal of Nuno means West Ham are now searching for their fourth permanent manager since David Moyes departed the London Stadium in May 2024.
Moncur also backs Parker
Another former West Ham player, John Moncur, echoed Green's endorsement — though he also expressed regret that Moyes was let go in the first place. "I don't think we would have been in this position if Moyes had stayed, because he's that type of manager that wouldn't have allowed the things to happen that did," Moncur told BBC Radio London.
Still, Moncur believes Parker is the right appointment now. "He has done a good job at other clubs, he knows the club backwards and it seems to fit," he said. "They are a very educated bunch of fans, you can't pull the wool over their eyes. It's no good playing lovely football if you're not winning matches."
