The post came within hours of reports confirming that fellow youngster JJ Gabriel had informed Manchester United of his intention to leave the club as a free agent. Because Gabriel is under 17, the formal process requires the cancellation of his schoolboy registration — a step that must be agreed upon by the player, the club, and a parent or guardian. Should no agreement be reached, the Premier League can step in to arbitrate.

Gabriel, nicknamed 'Kid Messi' within football circles, scored more than 20 goals for Manchester United's development squad last season and earned an unofficial senior debut during a pre-season fixture against Atletico Madrid. Manager Michael Carrick spoke warmly of Gabriel back in August, describing him as a player of rare quality. "JJ is one of the boys. He's obviously got a really big talent. He's trained with us quite a bit and is getting experience all the time. He's physically adapting to each step that he makes, and we're just continuing his development," Carrick said.

Under-21s head coach Adam Lawrence echoed that sentiment, stressing that his primary concern was preserving Gabriel's natural gifts. "Well, I think the first thing in my job is not to ruin him. When you have a talented player like JJ and the other lads, of course, you obviously don't want to stifle their freedom and their creativity," Lawrence said.
