Simba SC Demolish 15 de Agosto 9-1 on Aggregate to Reach CAF Champions League Group Stage

1 hour ago·2 min

Simba SC are through to the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2026/27 Group Stage after a dominant second-leg performance sealed a 9-1 aggregate victory over Equatorial Guinea's 15 de Agosto in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.

Goals from Anicet Oura, Elie Mpanzu, and Matlala Makgalwa — all in the second half — gave the Tanzanian giants a 3-0 win on the night, completing one of the most one-sided ties in this season's preliminary rounds.

Second half settles any remaining doubt

The first half passed without a goal, with 15 de Agosto managing to keep Simba at bay despite arriving in Tanzania already six goals behind from the opening leg. Any faint hope of a miraculous turnaround was extinguished in the 57th minute when Oura broke the deadlock.

Mpanzu made it 2-0 in the 69th minute before Makgalwa added a third in the 78th — wrapping up the tie and underlining Simba's clinical efficiency in front of goal.

A statement across two legs

The aggregate scoreline tells its own story. In the first leg, played in Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, Simba ran out 6-1 winners with Ibrahim Doumbia netting twice. Nathaniel Chilambo, Mpanzu, Makgalwa, and Oura also got on the scoresheet that day.

Nine goals across two matches confirm Simba as one of the most potent attacking sides heading into the group stage. For 15 de Agosto, the campaign ends having conceded six goals at home before shipping three more in Tanzania — a sobering exit from continental competition.

Tanzania with two group stage representatives

Simba's qualification means Tanzania will have two clubs in the Group Stage of Africa's premier club competition, with city rivals Young Africans also having already booked their place among the continent's final 16.

The Group Stage is scheduled to begin in November, and Simba — buoyed by their free-scoring form — will be among the names to watch when the draw is made.
