Tottenham Hotspur have accelerated their pursuit of AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, with reports from L'Equipe suggesting the deal could reach £51 million.

The 25-year-old United States international has become one of the more dependable centre-forwards in Ligue 1 since joining Monaco in 2023, netting 31 goals across 91 appearances in all competitions.

Intermediaries first brought Balogun to Tottenham's attention earlier this month, and negotiations have gathered pace in the days since. Personal terms are not expected to pose a significant hurdle, with the club keen to conclude further business before the transfer window closes.

De Zerbi's attacking ambition

Manager Roberto De Zerbi has identified striking reinforcement as his chief priority for the remainder of the window, even after Tottenham committed some £240 million to other areas of the squad earlier this summer. Balogun's relentless pressing, intelligent channel running, and composed link-up play match the profile De Zerbi demands from a modern centre-forward.

Balogun also enhanced his standing on the global stage at the FIFA World Cup 2026, scoring three goals in four matches before becoming embroiled in a suspension controversy involving FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

An Arsenal sell-on clause adds intrigue

Balogun spent 15 years in the Arsenal academy and made 10 appearances for the first team before eventually departing for France. When Arsenal sanctioned that move, they retained a 17.5 percent sell-on clause — meaning their north London rivals Tottenham could end up indirectly handing them a substantial windfall.

Monaco, with two years remaining on Balogun's contract at Stade Louis II, are reportedly willing to sanction his departure this summer. Tottenham, undeterred by the rivalry subplot, appear focused solely on securing the striker's signature as De Zerbi prepares for his first full season at the helm.
