Valencia have dismissed head coach Carlos Corberan and football chief executive Ron Gourlay following a disastrous start to the La Liga season that has left the club bottom of the table with a single point from five matches.

The Spanish club confirmed the departures on Monday, with Valencia B coach Oscar Sanchez stepping in as interim manager. Corberan's entire first-team coaching staff will also leave the club.

A winless run at the foot of La Liga

Valencia's season has lurched from bad to worse. Last week, they suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Barcelona, a result that appeared to seal the fate of both Corberan and Gourlay.

Corberan, 43, had joined Valencia in December 2024 after leading Championship side West Bromwich Albion. In his debut season at the club, he guided them to 12th place in La Liga — a creditable achievement given they were second-bottom when he took charge. Last season, the team improved further to finish ninth.

His successor will become Valencia's 18th permanent head coach since 2012, a statistic that underlines the deep instability at the Mestalla.

Gourlay's departure and club restructure

Former Chelsea chief executive Gourlay had also arrived at Valencia in December 2024, having previously worked with West Bromwich Albion. His leadership team — Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andres Zamora, and Malek Shafei — will depart alongside him.
