Micky van de Ven is set to sign a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur, ending speculation about his future at the club after a period of intense interest from some of Europe's biggest sides.

According to TEAMtalk, the 25-year-old Dutch defender is in line for a five-year extension — a deal that head coach Roberto De Zerbi has been central to securing. Reports indicate that De Zerbi has "transformed the mood" at the club, persuading Van de Ven to reject approaches from elite European clubs and commit his future to N17.

A leader in De Zerbi's project

Van de Ven arrived at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from Wolfsburg in 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the squad's standout performers, despite persistent hamstring problems limiting his appearances. Recognised as the fastest player ever recorded in the Premier League, he made an immediate impact under former head coach Ange Postecoglou, earning his first Netherlands call-up within weeks of joining Spurs.

With Cristian Romero increasingly likely to leave the club, Van de Ven's role within the squad has grown considerably. FourFourTwo understands he is expected to assume greater leadership responsibilities post-Romero — and may even be handed the captaincy once his fellow centre-back departs.

The arrival of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion adds further depth to Tottenham's defensive options, and De Zerbi is said to be keen to develop a Dutch partnership at the heart of his back line next season.

Building a squad from within
