Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirliği have secured the loan signing of Nigerian forward Victor Orakpo from Ligue 1 club OGC Nice, with the deal running until the end of the current season.

The Ankara-based club confirmed the agreement on Thursday via their official X account, welcoming the 20-year-old with a warm message. "We welcome Victor Orakpo to our family and wish him success under the red-black jersey," the club stated.

Orakpo's path to Ankara

Orakpo began his footballing journey at FC Bako before progressing to VOE Football Academy, an institution connected to the Bayern Munich international academy network. His performances attracted attention, and on 31 January 2024 he completed a move to OGC Nice on a contract running until 2027.

He made his senior debut for Nice as a substitute in a 2-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Auxerre on 18 August 2024. Just days later, on 26 August, Nice rewarded his potential by extending his contract through to 2028.

Earlier this year, on 2 February 2026, Orakpo moved to Ligue 2 side Nancy on a temporary basis before this latest switch to Turkish football.

A club with deep roots in Ankara

Gençlerbirliği carry a rich history in Turkish football, having been founded on 14 March 1923 by a group of students at Ankara Sultanisi high school. The club rose to early prominence, claiming three consecutive titles between 1930 and 1935 and going on to add a fifth championship in the 1934–35 season. Their rivalry with Ankaragücü has long defined the football landscape in Ankara.
