Chelsea are weighing up a move for John Stones, the England defender who became a free agent after his contract with Manchester City expired at the end of June.

The west London club are not alone in their pursuit — Inter Milan are also considering a deal for the 32-year-old, who made 295 appearances for City across nine years at the club.

Transfer activity at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are simultaneously in talks to bring Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix to Stamford Bridge, and are casting an eye over other candidates on the market, including Como's Jacobo Ramon.

To create room for incoming players, the club are actively looking to move on several defenders. Trevoh Chalobah, a fellow England international, is in discussions to join Como, while Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile have also been made available for transfer.

Stones' decorated career at City

Stones joined Manchester City from Everton in 2016 for £47.5 million and went on to become one of the most decorated defenders in English football history. During his time at the Etihad Stadium, he collected six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

The former Barnsley defender, who holds 93 England caps, was also part of the Three Lions squad that finished third at the World Cup.
