Fernandez Declares Lifelong Dream Fulfilled After Manchester City Move

1 hour ago·2 min

Enzo Fernandez has declared that signing for Manchester City represents the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition, describing the move as a milestone moment for both himself and his family.

The midfielder completed his transfer from Chelsea on deadline day, agreeing a contract that ties him to the club until the summer of 2031. At 24 years of age, Fernandez is already a World Cup winner, and he arrives at City eager to add more silverware to his cabinet.

"I always dreamed of being at a club as big as City," Fernandez said in his first interview as a City player. "I'm really happy to be here. It's a very emotional moment for me and my family, to take this step at 25 years old, in a football career that I always dreamed of."

The Argentine did not hide his ambitions for what he hopes to achieve in sky blue, insisting that winning trophies is not a bonus at a club like City — it is an expectation.

"Manchester City have to win every trophy they compete for," he said. "In every competition we play in, we have to compete and win, because this club's history demands that."

No hesitation from the first call

Fernandez also revealed that he needed no convincing once City came calling, describing the decision to leave Chelsea as straightforward from the moment contact was made.

"From the first day they believed in me and called me to say they wanted me to join the club, I didn't hesitate for a second," he said. "It's a club that has won a lot in recent years — a club that is making history in football and, for me, it's a huge challenge."

City have claimed 20 trophies across the last 10 seasons, a record of consistency that clearly attracted the midfielder. Fernandez also reunites at City with manager Enzo Maresca, under whom he previously worked.

"To be able to come here, help the club, and keep winning things together — that has been my goal since they called me," he added. "I know we are going to win many trophies together."
