Nine Leagues Still Open for Business After Premier League Deadline Day

The Premier League's transfer window has shut its doors, but the global market is far from quiet. Across nine other major leagues, clubs are still free to recruit and do business — with some deadlines closing in fast.
MLS deadline looming
Major League Soccer closes its window on September 2, making it the most urgent market still active. Houston Dynamo were finalising a loan agreement for Lyle Foster from Burnley as deadline day approached, while the Colorado Rapids made headlines with a club-record signing — Morgan Whittaker from Middlesbrough in a deal reported at over $10 million.
Saudi Pro League runs until October
The Saudi Pro League enjoys the most generous window of all, remaining open until October 12. The league's financial pull has grown dramatically since Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al-Nassr in January 2023, drawing in some of the world's highest-paid players.
This summer, both Ollie Watkins and Crysensio Summerville made the switch to Al-Hilal — the former Aston Villa striker and the Dutch winger each choosing the Saudi top flight over European competition.
Turkey's Super Lig wraps up September 4
The Turkish Super Lig has attracted significant attention this transfer window, with several high-profile arrivals. Romelu Lukaku joined Fenerbahce, Rafael Leao moved to Galatasaray, and Leandro Trossard completed a transfer to Besiktas. Richarlison is also reported to be on his way to Trabzonspor.
Earlier this window, a departing Liverpool legend — a free agent who had reportedly come close to joining Besiktas — instead signed for Trabzonspor in early August. Turkey's deadline falls on Friday, September 4.
Scotland, the Netherlands, and beyond
The Scottish Premiership window closes at 5pm BST on September 3. Celtic recently added goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, following the arrival of Shumaira Mheuka on loan from Chelsea.
The Eredivisie shuts down at midnight on September 2 — the same deadline as MLS. Portugal's top flight extends dealings until September 15, while Mexico and Brazil share an identical cutoff of September 11. The Swiss Super League closes on September 8.
