The Five Premier League Board Members Who Will Shape Manchester City's Punishment

As Manchester City await their punishment for breaching Premier League financial rules, attention turns to the five board members who will determine what sanction the league recommends to the independent commission.
An independent three-person panel found City guilty in September, and that same commission will ultimately decide on a punishment. However, the Premier League board's recommended sanction — alongside City's own submission, given the club maintain their innocence and have appealed — will carry significant weight in that process.
Possible outcomes range from a fine to a points deduction, expulsion, or even the stripping of past titles. No date for a sanction hearing has yet been set.
The board's role
The Premier League board is responsible for prosecuting rule breaches. It consists of the chair, the chief executive, and three independent non-executive directors. No club representatives sit on the board, ensuring neutrality in decisions.
Alison Brittain — chair
Brittain became the Premier League's first female chair nearly four years ago, arriving from senior roles in hospitality and financial services. She also chairs The King's Trust Group.
She has described herself as a lifelong Manchester United supporter who stood on the Stretford End as a child, and is now also a Brentford fan. In 2025, all 20 Premier League clubs backed her unanimously for a second three-year term.
