Garnacho Sidelined From Chelsea Pre-Season as Club Seeks Permanent Sale

Alejandro Garnacho was absent from Chelsea's first pre-season training session at Cobham on Thursday, as the Premier League club actively pursues a permanent sale of the Argentine winger, according to BBC Sport.

The 21-year-old's absence underlines the uncertainty surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge. Garnacho arrived from Manchester United in a £40 million deal on a seven-year contract, but an underwhelming debut campaign has left his Chelsea career at a crossroads.

Chelsea's asking price and potential destinations

Chelsea have placed a valuation of approximately £43 million — around 50 million euros — on Garnacho. The club are willing to consider only permanent transfers and have ruled out a loan move, despite reported interest from Serie A outfit Roma.

Premier League clubs, European sides, and teams from Saudi Arabia are also said to be monitoring the situation, with discussions described as open and progressing with several parties. Under the terms of his departure from Old Trafford, Manchester United are entitled to 10 percent of any future sale.

Garnacho managed just one Premier League goal in 24 appearances last season — ten of which came off the bench — as he struggled to earn a regular starting spot under manager Enzo Maresca and his successor Liam Rosenior.

Xabi Alonso reshapes the squad

The winger's potential exit forms part of a broader summer overhaul being conducted under new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso. The club have already bolstered their attacking options with the signings of full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £47 million and winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting for £40 million.

On the outgoing side, left-back Marc Cucurella has joined Real Madrid for £52 million, while winger Tyrique George has moved to Everton in a deal that could reach £24 million.

Chelsea are also in the market for a centre-back, with Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix identified as a target. Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria is reportedly in talks over a move to west London. Meanwhile, Trevoh Chalobah's representatives are exploring options at Italian clubs Inter Milan and Como.

Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League last season and are set to embark on a pre-season tour of Australia and Asia within the next fortnight.
