Ipswich Town have bolstered their Premier League preparations by securing the signature of Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City in a deal worth £20 million.

The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Portman Road, reuniting with top-flight football after Leicester's relegation from the Championship last season. The Foxes are now set for a second consecutive campaign in English football's third tier.

Fatawu made a significant impression during his time at Leicester, contributing 16 goals across 100 appearances since arriving from Sporting in 2023. He becomes Gary O'Neil's fifth summer recruit as Ipswich build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League.

Fatawu's arrival and Philogene's possible exit

The Ghanaian winger's move to Suffolk coincides with growing speculation over the future of Jaden Philogene. The 24-year-old has attracted attention from clubs across Europe—believed to include Bologna, Roma, and Benfica—and Ipswich are prepared to sanction his departure should a suitable offer arrive.

Fatawu expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead, saying: "The ambition the club has is very exciting and I'm looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season."

"After speaking to the manager, I know what the expectation is and I'm looking forward to meeting my team-mates and starting work," he added. "I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I'm excited to play for them and show them what I can do."

A busy summer at Portman Road

Fatawu joins a wave of new arrivals at Ipswich this summer. Striker Emersonn was the club's most expensive signing to date, arriving from Toulouse earlier this month for a record fee of around £26 million. Defender Cedric Kipre and forward Chuba Akpom both made their loans permanent following strong stints last season, while goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen crossed over from Dutch outfit FC Volendam.

The Tractor Boys, who clinched second place in the Championship last season, begin their Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland on 22 August.
